Auction Results: 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening, Morning, and Afternoon Sales, June 23 and 24, 2021 @Phillips

It was an uneventful run for the photography included in Phillips’ 20th Century & Contemporary Art sales in New York last week. With no photography lots in the Evening sale, most of the photo lots were relegated to the Afternoon session, where the top lot Andreas Gursky Pyongyang II diptych found a buyer within its estimate range. With a photographic Buy-In rate near 39% and no positive surprises, the Total Sale Proceeds for photography (of just under $1M) fell below the low end of the aggregate pre-sale estimate range.

The top photography lot by High estimate was lot 398, Andreas Gursky, Pyongyang II, 2007, estimated at $300000-500000; it was also the top photography outcome of the sales at $378000 (image above, via Phillips).

81.25% of the lots that sold had proceeds in or above the estimate range and there were no positive surprises in the sales (defined as having proceeds of at least double the high estimate).
