Phillips has rebranded its contemporary sales to add the words “20th Century”, thereby moving back its start date cut off to the late 1920s. While this may change the consignments on the painting and sculpture side, the only difference photographically seems to have been the addition of a tightly curated selection of vintage Japanese photographs (some from the 1960s and 1970s) which we wouldn’t normally expect to see in this sale. Otherwise, the upcoming sales in New York follow the normal pathways, with a Cindy Sherman film still as the photographic headliner. Overall, there are a total of 37 lots of photography available across the two sales, with a Total High Estimate of $2439000.
